What is CCD?
The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine is an Ecclesiastical Organization of the Catholic Church. Its primary and principal purpose is to provide religious education and Christian formation for Catholic children in State schools.
What is SRE?
Special religious educationtakes place in NSW Government Schools and is education in the beliefs and practices of an approved religious persuasion by authorised representatives of that persuasion. (Religious Education Implementation Procedures document, DoE, 2015). Generally SRE lessons are held weekly and are of thirty minutes duration.
There are three main requirements of the Department of Education and Communities for the implementation of SRE:
- Churches or SRE Providers must be approved (have the approval of the Minister for Education to deliver SRE)
- SRE teachers (catechists) must be authorised
- Curriculum- materials and pedagogy- must be authorised
